Parking Changes!

Changes are coming to parking this week!   Gates in the following parking decks will be using License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology per these tentative start dates:

Deck 3 & 4: June 13
Deck 2: June 14
Deck 1: June 17

As you approach the parking deck entrance or exit, the LPR cameras will capture an image of your license plate and verify with the system database that your plate is linked to an active parking permit.

  • if you have a valid and active parking permit, the gate will open for you
  • if you don’t have a permit, the gate will not open and you must pull a ticket and pay the parking fee prior to exit

To avoid any issues, it is highly recommended that you check the parking portal account and confirm that your permit is active and without pending citations and your license plate number is correct.  This technology has a high success rate but if there are any issues, you can:

  • install the ParkWhiz app on your smartphone as a backup
  • use the help button on the kiosk for real-time assistance if you do not have a smartphone

ParkWhiz is a commercial app that has a Monthly Registration feature linked to your Rutgers parking account.  You will need to confirm that your cell phone number is accurate in your parking portal account as well as create a Park Whiz account with an email address of your choice.  It is highly recommended that you set up this app ahead of time to avoid potential delays for you and your colleagues.  Please see the posted manual for additional information.

Don’t have a parking permit but use the daily permit ($5 a day, up to ten times a year)?  No problem, daily permits work the same way.  Pre-payment is done through the parking portal account and you will gain access through LPR.
