NJCRI “Friendsgiving”

For the past two years, the Rutgers University–Newark Police Department has proudly partnered with NJCRI to provide a pre-Thanksgiving “Friendsgiving” lunch for individuals and families in need. Through the generosity of our Police Officers, Security Officers, Community Service Officers, and community partners, we have been able to serve hundreds of meals directly on-site.

Last year, with your support, we served approximately 300 community members. This year, due to increasing need and in collaboration with NJCRI, we hope to serve at least 500 individuals across one to two locations. Our goal is that every person who stands in line on Friday, November 21st receives a hot meal and, where possible, a take-home tray.

How You Can Help

  • We welcome donations of prepared meals, sides, beverages, and desserts, such as:
    • Hot entrée trays (chicken, turkey, baked ziti, rice, vegetables)
    • Side dishes and desserts (mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potato pies)
    • Beverages (water, juice, hot beverage supplies)
    • Wrapped, non-perishable snacks (granola bars, chips, fruit cups)
  • Additional option: You may also send a direct food delivery through Uber Eats, DoorDash, or a catering service to NJCRI in my name of Ron Berry. Please contact directly prior to doing so to ensure proper coordination.
